Safety Certificate
In QLD, you need a roadworthy / safety certificate, when:
Selling a registered vehicle
Transferring ownership of a registered vehicle to a new owner
Transferring a vehicle's registration from another state or territory to Queensland
Re-registering an unregistered vehicle
Trailer Certificate
In QLD, you need a trailer certificate when you:
Sell or transfer a light trailer: (ATM of 751–4,500 kg) while it's registered, or if you transfer it from interstate registration.
Transfer registration to a new owner.
Transfer to Queensland registration from another state or territory
Certificate of Inspection
In QLD, you need a Certificate of Inspection for vehicles when:
The vehicle is a licensed taxi, limousine, or booked hire vehicle
The vehicle is registered in Queensland
The vehicle needs to pass a periodic or programmed inspection to ensure it meets minimum safety standards
Certificate Renewal
QLD roadworthy / safety certificates have set expirations allowances:
Private sale: 2months or 2000km
Dealer sale: 3months or 1000km

In the state of Queensland a Certificate of Inspection (COI) is required when vehicles (such as taxis, limousines and booked hire vehicles) registered in Queensland are not exempt from periodic or programmed minimum vehicle safety standards inspections.
