Diagnostic Scan

A scan to check for any onboard diagnostic trouble / error code signals pant and present that have been generated. It also allows monitoring of live data and individual component testing.

Pressure Test

Used to pressurise and pinpoint any cooling system leaks without being required to run the engine. This allows a workable assessment space and protects against further damage.

Smoke Machine

This is an advanced leak detection process for finding any air / low-pressure leaks. It allows a technician to visually determine the compromised area causing a concern in your vehicle.

Compression Test

A test to identify wear to engine components that have caused a decrease in compression.

Combustion Leak

A head check combustion leak detector is used to test for the obvious presence of combustion gases in the cooling system.

Electric Stethoscope

Common Questions

  • Every diagnostic price is different. At ANS Mechanic Services, we offer a free minor diagnostic to all concerns.

If the concern is more complex, or requires the use of specialty tools or equipment, our qualified technicians will explain to you what testing procedures are required and why they recommend this process of diagnosis.

The average cost of a car diagnostic service ranges from $35 to $300, with the final price varying dependent on the complexity of the test and on the complexity of your vehicle model.

We will always request pre-authorisation for any diagnostic costs before proceeding with a diagnosis.

  • A vehicle diagnostic can range anywhere from 20minutes to 3+ hours depending on the concern and testing required.  In some circumstances the diagnostic may require a vehicle to be started, ran to temperature, then allowed to cool down completed before retesting a concern.

Just as every vehicle is different, every concern and therefore diagnostic requirement also can vary. After discussing your concern with you our technicians will be able to advise you what they envision the diagnostic time to be.

  • A vehicle is a complex piece of equipment, especially considering how sophisticated modern day vehicle system have become even to carry out the most basic operations. Often we don't stop and think about it, but the car you are driving, even one without all the 'bells and whistles', is a multifaceted machine that interlayers a multitude of systems that need to cooperate to keep you moving on the road.

A similar system, though not a mechanical machine, is your body which also has a multitude of systems that operate together to keep you moving. With this analogy in mind, we can think of taking your vehicle in for a diagnostic as being similar to going to the Doctor. If you visit a medical practice for a ten minute checkup for a concern, often you will be given a form of treatment for your symptoms but will not be given a treatment for the root cause or prevention for it to not return again. For a Doctor to be able to do this they may send you for a variety of tests or speciality procedures.

This is similar to what occurs with your vehicle. A true diagnostic is not just finding the problem, it is finding why the problem occurred, what, if any, subsequent damage has occurred because of the problem, what is required to repair the problem, and if anything further needs to occurs to prevent the problem from happening again. To carry out this process, this there is labour involved, a diagnostic confirmation process, the use of a multitude of speciality equipment, the invaluable technicians experience, and a numerous other components and costs a workshop requires to outlay to provide a diagnostic. It is for this rearson that this process may incur a fee if it is required.
